Need a place to stay during Winter Break, when residence halls and apartments are closed? University Housing has you covered.

2020-2021 Break Housing

University Housing regularly provides options for students who are not able to fully leave campus during the intersession period between the end of the Fall semester and the start of the Spring semester.  During the prolonged 2020-2021 Winter Break, University Housing residents are expected to vacate their on-campus assignments.  Those residents who need to remain on campus for any length of time between November 25, 2020 and January 16, 2021 must request Winter Break Housing.   This includes residents who are currently residing in residence halls, Wolf Village, Wolf Ridge, and ES King Building D.  Residents of other buildings at ES King Village or residents of Western Manor Apartments are not required to request break housing and are exempt from additional charges for remaining during the break, unless they will not be continuing in their same location for the spring semester.

Eligibility for Winter Break Housing

  • Students currently in housing and who will remain in University Housing facilities for the spring semester are eligible.
  • Students currently in housing and who will be enrolled in the spring semester, but do not plan to live in University Housing facilities for the spring semester are eligible. Please note that you must check out by 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10.
  • NOTE: Students who will not be enrolled and registered for spring classes are not eligible for Winter Break Housing. All residents not remaining on campus for the break must check out by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Card access will be removed at this time.

COST

The cost for Winter Break Housing in 2020-2021 is $700 and covers the 50+ days between the end of the fall semester and the opening of the spring semester. The charge is required for all residents staying for the break, including residents in Wolf Ridge, Wolf Village, and the D Building of E.S. King Village, regardless of the length of time you stay on campus during this date range. The charge for Winter Break housing will be billed directly to the student’s account.

Please complete the Winter Break Housing Request form by 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020.

Residents remaining for Winter Break

**If you have a bicycle, University Police suggests storing it in your residence hall room or apartment during the break due to low occupancy on campus.**

If you are living in the same assignment for the spring:

  • Your access will remain current for your building; you do not need to do anything else.

If you are moving to a different space for the spring semester:

  • You will remain in your current space for the break and will need to complete your move to your new space on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. You will move into your spring assignment and return the key to your current space on this date.

Services for residents remaining on-campus during Winter Break:

  • Service Desks will be open on a limited basis so students can continue to receive mail and packages over the break. Desks will be closed on days the university is closed.
  • University Housing RAs and professional staff will be available to provide support for residents during Winter Break.
  • NC State Dining will have limited dining operations over Winter Break. If you have any questions, contact NC State Dining through the Wolfpack One Card office at ncstatedining@ncsu.edu or by calling 919-515-3090.
  • Student Health Services will be open until Dec. 23 and will reopen the week of Jan. 4. Go to healthypack.dasa.ncsu.edu for hours and appointments.

Residents NOT remaining for the break but who will return to University Housing for spring

**If you have a bicycle, University Police suggests storing it in your residence hall room or apartment during the break due to low occupancy on campus.**

If you are living in a different assignment for the spring:

  • You will need to complete a “Drop and Go” move before you leave for Winter Break, sometime between Nov. 17-24.  You will drop your belongings into your spring housing assignment and return the key for your current space before you leave for Winter Break.  A member of the Residence Life team will be in contact with you soon regarding when you can schedule to complete this move.

If you are remaining in your current assignment for the spring:

  • You may leave belongings in your space during the Winter Break period; however, you will not have access to your space for the duration of this period.

Please contact housing@ncsu.edu for more details on these and other guidelines for winter break housing.
