Cancellations Summary

NC State resident students with a room assignment can cancel their housing agreement/assignment at any time, understanding that there are associated fees for cancelling.

First Year Students

The cancellation policy does not apply to first year student housing assignments prior to the first day of class, because of the First Year Live-On Requirement. If first year students do not wish to live on campus, they must complete a first year live-on requirement appeal. If the appeal is granted prior to the start of the semester, a cancellation penalty will not be assessed. If first year students cancel their housing assignment AFTER the first day of classes, a pro-rated charge will be applied, and the cancellation fee schedule below will be in place.

Room Selection Period

Fall Room Selection is generally held in early spring (February-March), where participating students have an opportunity to select their room assignments for the following academic year. Students who select housing during this period, whether through a manual or online housing process, or are part of a roommate group during an online room selection process, have 24-hours from the time of the selection or acceptance of housing to cancel their housing assignment without penalty. Cancelling a housing application during any part of the Room Selection Process removes the student from the Room Selection Process for that year.

Cancellation Process

  1. Access MyPack Portal
  2. Select “Campus Living”
  3. Log into the “Housing Student Self Service” portal and follow the link to access your application
  4. Select “Forms”
  5. Complete the Cancellation Request
  6. Hit Submit

Cancellation fees are assessed as follows:

Through May 31 $300 Cancellation Fee
Between June 1 and June 30 $400 Cancellation Fee
Between July 1 and July 31 $500 Cancellation Fee
On or after August 1  (After 9/15/20 for 2020-2021) $700 Cancellation Fee
If cancelling after the start of the housing term, students will also be charged a prorated amount until they officially check out of housing and return their keys. Check-outs must be completed no later than 48 hours after submitting a cancellation request.

 

Students on a spring-only University Housing agreement who cancel their agreement will be charged a cancellation fee based on the following schedule.

NOTE: Spring 2021 residents may cancel their spring assignment by November 1 at 11:59 p.m., without incurring a cancellation fee. After this date, the below fee schedule will be applied:
