Fall 2020 Special Circumstance Housing

Residents approved to remain in University Housing during the FALL 2020 semester, following the closure of residence halls on September 6, should reference the information at the link above for proper receipt of mail/packages and service desk assistance.

Residents who reside in University Housing apartments and residence halls are able to receive mail and package deliveries.

Mail and Packages

Mail and Packages are delivered to residents one of three ways:

1. U.S. Postal Service (USPS) delivers directly to NC State Mail Services (Monday through Friday*).

  • USPS Mail and Packages are NOT delivered to NC State Mail Services on weekends or holidays.
  • At the NC State Mail Services Center, University Housing sorts and then delivers USPS mail and packages to the Apartments / Residence Hall Service Desks once a day, Monday through Friday.
  • Once received at the Apartment / Residence Hall Service Desks, Service Desk Staff enter the package into the tracking and notification system.
  • Once entered, the resident receives an automatic email notification to pick it up during Service Desk business hours.

2. Shipping Carriers (FedEx / UPS / Amazon, etc.) deliver directly to the Residence Hall or Apartment Service Desk 7 days a week

  • This method skips the NC State Mail Services Center.
  • Once received at the Apartment / Residence Hall Service Desk, Service Desk Staff enter the package into the tracking and notification system.
  • Once entered, the resident receives an automatic email notification to pick it up during Service Desk business hours.

3. U.S. Postal Service (USPS) delivers directly to the Apartments (Wolf Village, Wolf Ridge, ES King / Western Manor) 7 days a week

  • This method skips the NC State Mail Services Center.
  • The Apartment Service Desk Staff enter the package into the tracking and notification system.
  • Once entered, the resident receives an automatic email notification to pick it up during Service Desk business hours.

How should a package be sent to a resident?

Determine the timeliness of the package, then select the best carrier for your needs. For example, an overnight delivery through the USPS will reach the NC State Mail Services Center overnight Monday through Friday – but it may not necessarily make it to the resident, as mail and packages are delivered by NC State Mail Services to the residence halls/apartments Monday through Friday only.  You may expect that mail or packages may take one or two extra business days before they are available for pick-up.

Mail and Package Delivery

  • We receive a very high volume of packages on a daily basis. USPS mail and packages are processed on the day they arrive to campus, Monday-Friday.
  • Packages delivered directly to the apartments/residence halls by the shipping carrier are processed when received, 7-days a week. At the beginning and end of each semester, processing times may be longer due to high volume.
  • Check your NC State email address (unity@ncsu.edu) regularly. University Housing will send you an automatic email notification when a package is ready to pick up.
  • Please be aware that if the shipping carrier lists the shipping status as “delivered,” it does not mean it has reached the final destination (Residence Hall or University Apartment), it means the package has reached campus.
  • Residents will receive an automated email from University Housing when the package has reached the final destination. Residents, please wait until you have received the email notification from University Housing to pick up your package.

Proper Formatting of Mailing Addresses

Addressing Mail and Packages

  • When addressing mail and packages to a University Housing resident, make sure to include the resident’s full name, the building’s complete street mailing address, the resident’s room/apartment number, and the building’s name.
