Leadership Opportunities

During the First-Year:

With elections occurring in August/September, there are opportunities for first-year Village members to run for leadership roles within the Impact Leadership Council including:

  1. Vice-President Pro Tem of the Leadership Development Committee
  2. Vice-President Pro Tem of the Marketing and Recruitment Committee
  3. Vice-President Pro Tem of the Community Outreach Committee
  4. Vice-President Pro Tem of the Event Planning Committee
  5. Suite Representative
Committee Pro-Tems serve as the primary support resource for the committee VPs. This includes regular meetings with committee VPs, leading the committee if the VP is absent, and assisting with overall direction of the committees. Pro-tems shadow VPs during the fall semester to learn the role and transition to active leadership of the committee during the spring semester. If you are interested in running for a first-year leadership role, talk with your Community Leader during move-in or Orientation!

After the First-Year

There are two pathways to return to the Village after the first-year. First, you can apply for the Community Leader position, or, you can apply to serve as an ILC Executive Board member.
  • Community Leader:  One of the most crucial components of the Impact Leadership Village is the Community Leader staff members. Community Leaders, or CLs, work collaboratively with the Resident Advisors to provide an enjoyable and educational village experience for all ILV residents, and serve as a liaison between the ILV community, Bowen Hall, and University Housing.

The CLs play a key role in providing a comprehensive program that blends the co-curricular with the academic. The overarching goal of the CL is to serve as a model of good leadership, as well as responsible academic and social behavior. The Community Leader reports directly to the Impact Leadership Village Director. In addition, the Community Leader will report indirectly to Director of Living and Learning Initiatives.

The CL selection process will take place during the second half of the fall semester including a written application, 1:1 conversation with the Director, references from current CL staff members, as well as a grade and conduct checks. The hiring process opens in November with hiring decisions delivered over winter break. Ask your CL about their hiring experience and be attentive for Village communications announcing the opening of applications.
