What is the Challenge?

The Wolf Den Challenge is an annual room design competition available to all on-campus residents. Residents can enter their room into any combination of the four judging categories. Winners will receive gift cards, prize packs and a feature on University Housing’s social media.

Contest Categories

On-campus residents are welcome to enter their room or apartment living room into any combination of the following categories:

Home Sweet Home

“Home Sweet Home” is a judges’ choice category. We want to see what makes your space uniquely YOU. Submissions will be evaluated based on use of space, use of color and reflection of personality.

Wolfpack Pride

“Wolfpack Pride” is a judges’ choice category. Your room is built for the Wolfpack. Whether it’s NC State colors, Raleigh memorabilia or Welcome Week freebies, your place screams NC State. Submissions will be evaluated based on commitment to the category, creativity and use of space.

Best Living Room

“Best Living Room” is a judges’ choice category. Your common area is THE space for your pack to hang out. Your living area was an obvious team effort and there’s just something about it that makes everyone want to visit. This category is for apartment residents who share a common living area. Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, use of space and reflection of group interests.

People’s Choice

The “People’s Choice” category will be decided by social media interactions. The People’s Choice submissions will be posted on University Housing’s Facebook page and Instagram stories (contestants will receive an email when submissions are posted). The room that gets the most combined likes between platforms by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20 will win. Please indicate in the file name or in the “additional comments” box which picture you would like to have posted on our social media channels.

How to Enter

Residents can enter the 2023 Wolf Den Challenge by submitting 1-3 photos of their room or living room at the following form. Entrants must first agree to all of the Wolf Den Challenge guidelines before submitting.

By entering this contest, you agree to the following terms and conditions listed below:

  1. All residents (including University Housing student staff) of the following University Housing residences are eligible to enter this contest: Alexander, Avent Ferry, Bagwell, Becton, Berry, Bowen, Bragaw, Carroll, E.S. King Village, Gold, Lee, Metcalf, North, Owen, Sullivan, Syme, Tucker, Turlington, Watauga, Welch, Western Manor, Wolf Ridge, Wolf Village, Wood, University Towers
  2. You agree to the Photograph and Publicity Release policy included in University Housing’s community standards: Residents of University Housing give NC State permission to record their participation and appearance on videotape, audiotape, film photograph or any other medium; use the resident’s name, likeness, voice and biographical material in connection with such recordings; exhibit or distribute such recordings in whole or in part without restrictions or limitation for any legal purpose, including educational or promotional purposes, which NC State deems appropriate. NC State can copyright images and recordings in its own name to publish, to market, and to assign without consideration, compensation or report to the resident.   3. Contestants consent to use of their decorated space for photography and videography as requested by University Housing. All requested photography and videography sessions will be supervised by University Housing staff and will be scheduled in agreement with all occupants of the resident’s assigned space.
  4. Entrants decorating their space with prohibited items will be automatically disqualified. See our Community Standards page for a complete list of prohibited items.
  5. Only one entry per bedroom. If living in a shared room, both roommates must agree to participate in the contest. Suitemates/ those in the same apartment do not need to agree to participate unless you are submitting a living room entry.
  6. Each individual in the winning roommate pair or apartment will win a prize pack. If an individual wins in a bedroom category and the living room category, they will only receive one prize pack.
  7. Your submission must include 1-3 unedited photos of your room. No Instagram photos, photos with filters or collages will be accepted. Only bedroom and living room submissions will be accepted. No bathroom photos, please.
  8. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Contestant photos for the People’s Choice category will be posted on the University Housing Facebook page and on our Instagram stories. The top “liked” room will win this category.
  9. A panel of judges will choose winners for the Wolfpack Pride, Best Living Room and Home Sweet Home categories based on creativity, use of color, theme and overall design.
  10. University Housing professional staff are not eligible to participate.
  11. The submission form will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 15. No submissions or edits will be accepted after this point.
